Chris Christie may be secretly regretting his half staff order to commemorate Whitney Houston’s death. Opposition to the Governor’s decision has only gained momentum since the singer’s funeral on Saturday; and now, a Michigan man has gone to great lengths to make his disapproval known.
John Burri recently burned the New Jersey state flag to protest Chris Christie’s controversial order, which had all NJ state buildings fly their flags at half staff on Saturday. Burri, who lost his son in the Iraq War, claims that Christie’s decision was disrespectful to soldiers who give their lives in service.
In talking to reporters, Burri stated, “This was a person who was a great entertainer and a great voice. But this was not someone who gave their life and shed their blood for our country.”
Last week, Christie again defended his decision in a public statement, explaining “I am disturbed by people who believe that because her ultimate demise – and we don’t know what is the cause of her death yet – but because of her history of substance abuse that somehow she’s forfeited the good things that she did in her life. I just reject that on a human level.”
The hive mind seems to agree with Burri, as all sorts of internet memes disagreeing with Christie’s decision have been posted to Facebook and other social media sites. Here are just a few currently floating around.
Last week we wrote our own take on Christie’s decision, but we’d like to hear your opinion on the matter. Drop us a comment below.
