Philadelphia airport officials initially thought they were witnessing a terrorist attack when they detected a rogue jeep driving recklessly down a live, airport runway.
On Thursday, at around 11 am, 24-year-old Kenneth Richard Mazik drove his Jeep Cherokee to a gate at the Philadelphia International Airport. Then, for some reason, he put his car in reverse, busted through a construction barrier and started careening down the runway.
Airport security immediately detected Mazik using ground radar and police we quickly dispatched, giving rise to a rather intense, high-speed chase on an active runway. At one point during the mayhem, air traffic controllers were forced to divert a commuter jet from landing at the last second, as it would have landed directly on Mazik and police.
Eventually, Mazik was surrounded by police and apprehended. He’s been charged with DUI and reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and assault on a police officer
While details are still vague regarding why Mazik drove onto the runway, we’re just going to assume he was high and thought he was inside a video game, because that’s exactly what we do when we play GTA.
