Philly Crime Reports Now Featuring More Emoticons

The entire city of Philadelphia is going full-on mobile; police are tweeting, City Hall (finally) has an app and you can finally put your friendly neighborhood hoarder on blast using Google maps.

To complete our transformation to the digital age and increase our chances of actualizing the movie Robocop, word comes today that the PPD will now be accepting police reports through text messages.

Mayor Nutter commented to reporters, “This tipline is one more way that citizens of Philadelphia can take back their neighborhoods. I would like to encourage Philadelphians to save this number in their phones. If you know something, say something.”

If you ask us, it’s about darn time, though, this advent will unfortunately ruin all those scenes in horror movies where the female protagonist finally gets to a phone but can’t talk to the police because she’s hiding under a desk and the killer is in the same room.

You can text the PPD at “PPD TIP” or 773847, just be sure to use emoticons sparingly.
