Trees Planted at Joe Paterno Statue Site

After Joe Paterno’s statue was covered in a blanket and escorted to a safe, undisclosed location (and after one of the statue’s donors complained about its removal), Penn State needed to fill the gaping, metaphorical hole that served to constantly remind everyone of their new-found shame. Luckily, trees are relatively cheap and easily obtained.

The Centre Daily Times reports that Penn State planted a few trees in the statue’s stead over the weekend, because, well, no one can really take issue with a tree’s moral compass and, as far as we know, trees can’t assist in covering up a sex abuse scandal involving children.

We’re still unsure if the choice was meant to symbolize new growth, or if it was just used a cost effective cover-up.
