With vaulted ceilings, classic French doors and Parisan-style posters, Loie looks and feels more like a scene in an obscure art house film than just another restaurant and lounge.

But for the French-inspired brasserie and bar that was named for Loie Fuller, the poster girl for the art nouveau movement, being different is quite all right. In fact, after receiving glowing reviews from critics and patrons alike, it's better than all right. It's genius.

Opened last year by Lucy's Hat Shop owner Avram Hornik, Loie has quickly become the city's newest hot spot and has solidified the Rittenhouse area as a bona fide Old City rival with its exquisite menu and chic clientele.

"Loie is just another great reason to visit the Rittenhouse area. It's elegant and inviting but without all the pretenses you can get at other places," said Alison Louick, a long time resident. "We've lived here for awhile and can tell you that this part of the city is where all of the action is."

Located in the middle of 19th Street, Loie features some of Philly's finest DJs spinning each weekend and outside seating that is always filled during the spring and summer months. But the best part is perhaps its gigantic bar that, sitting right in the middle of the restaurant and smack dab in front of the French windows, is the best place to see and be seen.

So, whether it's the artistic vibe you're looking for or you're just craving a little culture with your cosmo, one thing is for sure. That for a city that seldom changes, Loie is indeed the "movement" we've all been looking for.
