Talk about your coups d’art! Hey, kids, Wexler Gallery’s got Damien Hirst. (In)Between is a group show that features some Philly folk and others, including the aforementioned Hirst. Sienna Freeman, Wexler’s associate director, curated this bad boy with the concept of vanitas in mind. Vanitas, a type of symbolic still-life painting that dates back to sixteenth-century Europe, extolled life from good to bad on the emotional and spiritual spectrum. The artists included here, besides Hirst, are Joe Boruchow, Adelaide Paul, Randall Sellers, Anne Siems, Dirk Staschke, and Tim Tate. The work runs from painting to sculpture and beyond. Way beyond.
