The Shore Report

This weekend, Aroundphilly.com invites you to get out of the crowded clubs, away from the tumultuous traffic and seek sanctuary at the shore’s most serene and scenic sea town, Cape May.

Join us as we take a tour of this legendary beach community and unearth everything from the best day trips to the most sophisticated martini lounges. Ready to shake up your regular shore routine? Here we go…

A Whale of a Good Time
Looking for a romantic and fun way to spend time with your loved one? Forget the ordinary dinner date and head to the Sunset Dolphin Watch on Saturday night from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. As the shore’s largest and fastest whale watching tour, you’ll get to ride the 110 ft. “Whale Watcher” as you enjoy the beautiful sights of New Jersey’s coastland as well as its countless dolphins, whales and other sea life.

Additionally, you’ll get a first-class meal that lets you choose from a variety of dishes like the flounder Francaise, shrimp scampi and linguine with clam sauce all served on board as you cruise the cape.

Reservations must be made by 4pm and via telephone only.

Shop ‘Til You Drop
Perhaps one of the quaintest shopping districts at the shore, you won’t want to miss hitting the Victorian Washington Street Mall. Lined with stylish little boutiques that range from trendy clothing shops to hand-crafted jewelry stores to homemade fudge and candy stands, this outdoor shopping district is truly an experience you won’t want to miss. And the best part? Because it is home to only individualized stores (nothing commercial here!) you can rest assured that you won’t find your purchase anywhere (or on anyone) else.

Mix Up Your Nightlife
Located on the corner of Beach and Decatur St. Martini Beach is an intimate lounge that just begs for you to enter.. Serving up the best martinis I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot), these two-handed doozies range from vanilla and coffee flavored to the perfectly blended Key Lime Pie martini complete with a gram cracker-rimmed glass. The prices are steep (about $10 to $12 each) but with enough alcohol in one to floor a rock star, you won’t need a lot.

Plus, there’s no cover to get into this ultra-sexy and sophisticated lounge, which was a nice surprise compared with the stiff admissions at some of Philadelphia’s martini bars. All in all, Martini Beach is a great way to end your day in Cape May!
