Depending on your beer appetite, 10 days may or may not be enough time to taste all the hopped-up wonders Philadelphia is brewing this upcoming week. For Philadelphia’s second annual Beer Week some of the city’s best restaurants and pubs are teaming up to provide beer enthusiasts with more than 600 events and five major beer-fueled festivals. From March 6 to March 15 you can make your way to your favorite local bar or trek it to a new spot to ensure your full belly’s worth of brew in a city rich with beer culture.
For the week of March 8 through March 13, London Grill will host an array of events sure to get the lager lovers’ mouths watering. Daily events are available such as The Brewers Plate where you can get a taste of the restaurant’s famous Chili Elizabeth Taylor (a recipe that includes a special blend of ground beef, tomatoes and pinto beans) paired with their Smooth Hoperator and Scrawny Dog Stoudts. You will also get the chance to Meet the Brewer, where you can toss back samples of newly introduced ales as you listen to tales of where each came from.
Morimoto has also jumped on the bandwagon as they offer a one-night-only beer week special for $75 per person. Reserve your spot for Thurs., March 12 to indulge in a five-course meal coupled with some of the restaurant’s signature beers and variety of some rouge specialty beers.
Another of famous restaurateur, Steven Starr’s establishments, Jones is offering a 3 Brewer, 3 Course Beer Dinner on Tues., March 10. This unconventional beer-tasting event allows you to enjoy each course with two craft beers of your choice but features Sam Adams, Victory and Flying Fish. This dinner special will set each diner back just $55.
Whether you’re a fan of Russian River beer or just curious to discover what all the hype is about, join Local 44 (4333 Spruce St., 215.222.BEER, www.local44beerbar.com) from Mon., March 9 to March 15 to get your Russian River fill. Beginning at 11:30am, Local 44 will have the tap flowing with some favorites from the West coast. For those who enjoy friendly rivalry there will be an East Coast vs. West Coast drink special each night where you will be able to sip on a different “deal of the day” beer from each of the two coasts.
Gullifty’s Pizza Bar and Grille will feature fun events with an emphasis on beer this week. There is Beer Menu Madness, a chance to sample up to 64 of the restaurant’s 130 beers. Also enjoy a fun night of mixing beer with pleasure at the Mix Six and Mingle event. Here suds-lovin’ singles can meet at 9pm daily for happy hour to create a six-pack of their favorite brews. At the Beer Dinner and Stone Brewers event at $60 per person a four-course meal is accompanied with five beers.
Give the horror flicks a break this Fri., March 13, and head to Thirteen instead. For 13 hours, beginning at noon on Friday, Thirteen will host 13/13/13 where one free sample of 13 styles of Sam Adams beer will be served each hour on the hour. Complimentary appetizers will accompany the drinks and, at 5pm, Thirteen will exclusively debut the newest of Sam Adams’ brews, Blackberry Wit, to Philadelphia. With the $3 Sam Adams specials that will be available all night, 13 will now be Philadelphia’s new favorite number.
