Whether it’s going green or cutting out the carbs, social trends dictate the lifestyles we lead. For restaurant, XIX (Nineteen) at Park Hyatt at the Bellevue, it’s health-conscious drinks and smoothies that are the buzz. Brazilian Nutritionist, Patricia Teixeira, developed the tasty beverages with the intention to help travelers recover from travel stresses and exhaustion. Each smoothie specifically targets certain areas in the body. Patricia Teixeira’s Healthy Smoothie– made with banana, orange juice, strawberries, mint leaf, soy milk and almonds–was created to reduce heart tension. Try out each smoothie variation for $10.

A note to the adventurous: Mark your calendars for Saturday May 16 for the grand opening of The Piazza at Schmidts (pictures will be posted on Aroundphilly next week). This stellar 80,000-square-foot plaza has everything from a high-definition television streaming Phillies games to art galleries and boutiques. The best part Piazza’s opening is of course the addition of four new restaurants. If you are in the mood to step back in time for a fun meal, check out Darling’s Diner at the Piazza (image on right). For a slice of pizza and draft beer or if you’re craving a heaping bowl of spaghetti and meatballs, head over to the new Italian restaurant, Vino. If you are looking for something on the trendy side, you have two new options, The Swift Half pub or the P.Y.T. bar and lounge.

Were you ever indecisive as to whether to dine indoors or snag the table outside? Well, that question is now answered. At the new bi-level Noble American Cookery, located on 2025 Sansom St. in Rittenhouse, skylights and large windows open the restaurant and allow a diner to experience what’s outside while still remaining indoors. Noble’s modern rustic space features reclaimed wide-plank hickory floors, sweeping skylights, modern furnishings and a chef’s rooftop herb garden (chef Cameron’s American menu focuses on locally grown and raised, sustainable products, similar to Bistro 7).

Pottstown’s Funky Lil’ Kitchen will be taking on a funky lil’ change in the coming weeks. The farmer providing the fresh produce to the restaurant will have his own restaurant dinner special on Friday evenings. “Jack’s Farm Dinners” will be a prix-fixe meal for $30.

Similarly, the kitchen at Dark Horse Pub in Headhouse Square will also be taken over. On May 18, two promising chefs will deliver a four-course tasting menu, for a not-too-shabby $35. To let you in on a secret, sake-glazed halibut and braised lamb shoulder are just two of the appetizing entrées on the menu for the night.

Philadelphia’s highly recognized Israeli dining venue, Zahav, will be celebrating its first birthday on May 20. To commend Zahav’s excellence in food and service, belly dancers, music and specials such as $5 all-you-can-eat hummus, will be offered throughout the evening, which begins at 8.pm.

What better way to unWINEd this Memorial Day Weekend than by enjoying an outdoor concert series and a wine tasting? For $25, you can take part in Chaddsford Winery’s Memorial Day Weekend Brandywine River Blues Festival. The pre-payment includes wine tasting, a wine glass gift and two concerts.

How does one satisfy a summer sea-food craving without shelling out serious bills? For deliciously affordable food favorites, head over to Resort Atlantic City’s BeachBall Seafood House, opening on the boardwalk Friday of Memorial Day Weekend. With a wide variety of items which include homemade soups, fired calamari, crabcakes, and salads, BeachBall Seafood House can satisfy any palate. In addition to the savory flavors and extensive menu, BeachBall’s prices won’t break the bank either. Whether you decide on the Steamed Clams or perhaps you are craving the Old Bay Seasoned shrimp, the dishes are both pleasantly priced under $10. Open Fridays 6pm to 1am, Saturdays from Noon to 1am and Sundays from Noon to 7pm.
