Philadelphia would like to welcome back the 300-year-old, Broad Axe Tavern. The new tavern menu is extremely specific, breaking the items down into large plates, small plates and sandwiches. There are 16 domestic beers on tap, including the malty caramel Sierra Nevada English pale ale. Rumor has it that the grilled chicken and pasta with tomatoes, capers and garlic is to die for. The cozy atmosphere will have you coming back (as if the beer wasn’t alluring enough).
Sullivan’s Steakhouse is now serving up Sunday brunch from 11am – 2pm. They’re preparing all of your favorite brunch picks like French toast, eggs Benedict, Belgian waffles and even burgers. Specials items include John L. Meatloaf, meatloaf with blue cheese, sautéed mushrooms, onions, Bordelaise sauce and horseradish mashed potatoes.
Next time you’re in the mood to unwind at happy hour after a rough day at work, head over to Seafood Unlimited where they’re offering a special summer happy hour starting at 5pm every night. From 5 until close Seafood Unlimited welcomes you to enjoy $3 pints of Yuengling drafts, $5 glasses of wine and $5 margaritas. The happy hour food is phenomenally priced as well–where else can you find a spring mix goat cheese salad with mandarin oranges and balsamic vinaigrette for only $5?
In celebration of its new tapas menu, Blush is offering killer drink and food specials. Monday through Wednesday when you order a glass wine in the dining room, drinks are free the rest of the evening. And Monday through Friday from 5 – 7pm, Blush’s “Earth, Wind, Fire and Water,” flatbreads and cocktails are all half off, which means the buffalo mozzarella, basil, plum tomato and filetto di pomodoro is $2.50.
The Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City is opening its newest restaurant, Fornelletto, with chef Stephen Kalt running the show back stage. The menu is inspired by Kalt’s time spent living in Italy and only the finest and freshest ingredients are used to prepare the delectable courses. We’re excited about Fornelletto’s fresh mozzarella bar. Yum.
Instead of hitting the scene this summer in a trendy manner, the London Grill is shouting out a throwback to classic and original cocktails but adding a new flare. These spruced-up and time-honored specialties range in price from $9 to $15, but are worth every penny. Try the Pina Colada, carefully blended with lemongrass and Thai basil, infused with gold rum, coconut milk and pineapple. Trust us, you won’t be able to have just one.
Watching the sunset over the Sandia Peak Mountain range in New Mexico is one of those experiences everyone should have at least once during their lifetime. Hopping on a plane from the East Coast to the Southwest, however, is not realistic every time we crave a beautiful sunset and deadly quesadillas. That’s why Coyote Crossing is preparing Coyote Fajitas, Chile Abuelita and Grilled Chicken Mole for under $20 in their two outside dining areas; your choice rooftop or courtyard. Enjoy ½ price appetizers, complimentary margaritas and $3 Dos Equis XX and Coronas at happy hour Monday through Friday 5 – 7pm.
Aroundphilly.com is sad to say goodbye to recently closed Susanna Foo. Thanks for all your hard work; you will be missed.
Be sure to visit Rita’s Ices in the month of June to help support Alex’s Lemonade Stand and raise money to cure pediatric cancer. Rita’s is making it easy to give back by purchasing a paper lemon for only $1 this month.
We would like to welcome Crescendo at the Mann to Fairmont Park. The new Stephen Starr restaurant is designed with an Asian flare and a $46 price fix menu is in order. There is a “live action” sushi bar (we’ll let you use your imagination on this one) and great stone fruit sangria.
Zinc invites you to celebrate Bastille Day with them on July 11 for a “picnic menu of French favorites.” Enjoy French food and culture for only $15 to dine and $5 for wine by the glass (these celebratory prices will last from noon until 10pm). And if French food is as foreign to you as it is to me, then brie en croute, baked crusted brie cheese, French Baguette sandwiches and Cherry Clafoutis should help to clear things up.
In honor of National Picnic Month, Supper will be making an assortment of deviled eggs in the month of July. Check out deep-fried Scotch deviled eggs, wasabi eggs, black truffle eggs and many more creative variations. During happy hour from 5 – 8pm enjoy Sly Fox beer specials and $1 deviled eggs.

West Philly would like to warmly welcome the Gold Standard to their neck of the woods. Gold Standard is serving homemade scones, crisp warm waffles and other homely meals during the day. At night dinner is served at a reasonable price in a relaxed atmosphere. Nota Bene: Gold Standard is only open Wednesday – Sunday.
Another newbie to hit the city this summer is Varga Bar, a retro pub that has moderately priced foods and 22 beers on tap. The ceiling is a mural covered in 1940’s pin-up girls that will keep your dinner guest chatting.
Sam Mink reopened the Sansom Street Oyster House that his father formerly owned for 25 years. Mink has filled the Oyster House with raw clams and oysters, lobster bisque and snapper turtle soup. His is also offering smaller plates like smoked trout and grilled sardines. Definitely order a Chihuahua–hot-pepper-and-cilantro-infused vodka.
