Sa Va Fair

When we think of the fashion industry, “socially conscious” isn’t the first phrase that comes to mind (see: Anna Wintour’s fur collection, starving models, Tyra Banks). SA VA aims to change that. Not only will the store carry clothes made with only fair-trade and organic materials, but it will create 22 fair-wage jobs for Philadelphians in two years while doing it. Not to mention, the flagship store’s hangers are all 100% recycled and recyclable.

The brand’s green initiatives, along with its interactive site where customers can create designs for upcoming items, make for a breath of fresh air in a hard-pressed industry. An upcoming piece we love: the Claire dress. At just $159, the silk crepe sleeveless has gemstones around the mesh neckline and down the front. In keeping with the store’s mission, the neckline was hand-beaded in India (fair-trade, of course). Our favorite part? The fuscia and marigold color options; it’s a dress perfect for fall with tights and heels.

Max Kaplan

When asked what he wants to do with his life, Max Kaplan's response often involves quiet mumbling and the word Quidditch. He loves photography, traveling, design and pronouncing IKEA product names. His hometown of Gettysburg is jealous that Aroundphilly.com snatched him up first.
