The heavy metal group from the popular documentary Heavy Metal in Baghdad will be playing Johnny Brenda’s this Thursday night (after Mistallica). The foursome, Acrassicauda (Latin for Black Scorpion), have since emigrated to America and are currently enjoying freedom-heavy metal style in New York.
Acrassicauda’s documentary exposed the plights the foursome had to endure as they tried to record and play shows during Saddam Hussein’s oppressive regime. At one point, the band was even forced to sing pro-Saddam lyrics, “Following our leader Saddam Hussein, we’ll make them fall, we’ll drive them insane!”- which, if you ask me, is actually still pretty metal, but definitely a bummer.
