General Manager of Victory’s restaurant, Matt Krueger, has combined two chilly summer classics to create the ultimate frozen treat. Beer and ice cream are not typically enjoyed together, but thanks to Krueger, there is now a way to enjoy three of Victory’s best selling brews in ice cream form.
Now before you get too excited, I have to mention that this beer ice cream is (unfortunately) non-alcoholic. Krueger explains how the ice cream is made from a byproduct of the brewing process called wort. After mashing grain and hot water, wort is the residual sugar leftover. Krueger describes wort as “the building block for the beer” and now it’s being used to flavor the three varieties of ice cream. The wort from each beer is turned into flavorful syrup and then mixed with ice cream batter.
Triple Monkey is a banana ice cream with peanuts, caramel, and the wort of Victory’s Golden Monkey beer. Hop Devil beer is used to create Hopped Up; a cinnamon ice cream with cayenne and chocolate covered coffee beans. And Storm King Crunch is chocolate ice cream and chocolate malted milk balls with the wort from Storm King Stout. You can only get these frozen treats at Victory’s pub and retail stores in Downington. Definitely worth the trip to stock up for the rest of the summer.
