Say Cheese Philadelphia

It’s warm. It’s gooey. It melts in your mouth.

Don’t be a perv; I am talking about the beacon of sandwiches- a mouth-watering, perfectly prepared grilled cheese.  Having fatefully stumbled upon a new food truck in Philadelphia, I feel it is my god-given duty to inform our readers. I am not referring to your typical Philadelphia food truck that you, somewhat nervously, eat, praying you don’t have to spend the rest of the afternoon in the John either. No, no, I am talking about a whole new level of goodness.

Say Cheese Philadelphia is a family owned and operated food truck that can be found on Temple’s campus between 12th and 13th Streets on West Norris, operating from 11-7p.m. during the week. Co-owners Les Krawitz, his two sons Alan and Marc, and their branding expert, Chris Matthews, have teamed up to create a one-of-a-kind food truck that appeals to the blue-collar customers that make up our great city.

Mind, they don’t just serve an ordinary grilled cheese. Instead, they sought out many local, high quality products to create the perfect grilled cheese sandwich, complete with their own personal twist. Together the team, or as I like to refer to them, food geniuses, created The Standard Issue: a build-your-own, double stacked grilled cheese sandwich made with not one, not two, but THREE pieces of fresh artisan bread. Customers then get to choose between different kinds of breads and in-season vegetables as well as between six different types of cheeses! If you are feeling randy, you can also add one of their home-made sauces and, dare I say it, even bacon and avocado(my favorite) to your grilled cheese.

Their awesome menu also includes The Breakfast Bombshell, The Presto Pesto Grilled Cheese, soups, fries (both regular AND sweet potato), and specialty sandwiches that have yet to even be announced.

If you finished reading this article and still don’t have a craving for a melt-in-your-mouth grilled cheese, give yourself a pat on the back because you are stronger than I am.

    What a great article Michele! I love grilled cheese too. Especially with tomato soup. You can’t beat that with a stick.

         I often dismiss grilled cheese sandwiches as a standard sandwich that you make when you want something plain, quick to make, and simple-that is until I had a “Say Cheese Philadelphia” grilled cheese.  These sandwiches not only provide a new burst of flavor never realized by anything that can call itself a “grilled cheese”, but, unlike many sandwiches, they actually fill you up (which is a shame because after you have one, you will want to try new combinations of cheeses, toppings, and sides)!  The affordable prices and friendly, family-run, service make this food truck truly unique.  As someone who grew up in the Philadelphia area who now lives abroad, when I come home to visit the first food I crave won’t be a soft pretzel or even a cheese steak, but a “Say Cheese Philadelphia” grilled cheese made to my order.
