New Independence Hall Clock to be Revealed This Weekend

Dilworth Plaza isn’t the only iconic Philly location getting a much-needed face-lift these days.

After an 18-month-long restoration, the clock tower at Independence Hall is ready to shed its scaffolding and reveal its new face to the world this Saturday, February 18th.

Decay had plagued the tower, affecting the outer shell and structural framework. Since July 2010, $4.4 million in funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act were used to renovate the historical landmark.  The National Park Service worked to make sure Independence Hall was kept as close to its original, 18th century condition.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the clock tower’s unveiling will be held at 4:30 p.m., across the street at Independence Mall and it is open to the public.
