As we reported last week, local police recently came across a payload of stolen bikes while arresting a suspect on the 2200 block of West Lehigh Avenue. Last Wednesday, police displayed all of the bikes in hopes of returning them to their rightful owners.
Apparently, that did not work well, as police have now released this slideshow (I guess they can’t figure out Flickr) which shows all of the bikes that have yet to be recovered.
Something about this video is just really depressing, especially considering that somewhere out there, the bike’s true owner has moved onto a more modern, perhaps flashier model, with more gears, fancier spokes and shiny new coat of paint.
To commemorate these forgotten fixies, we decided to add that Sarah Mclachlan song- you know, the one from the commercial. As the saying goes, “A bike’s not really dead. As long as we remember it.”
Ride on old friend… ride on.
