It’s official: The Divine Lorraine is sealed up tight- along with your dreams to sneak in someday and take a really rad Facebook cover photo. Hidden City reports that, earlier this week, L&I placed neatly stacked blocks of concrete to fill the local landmark’s windows, barring entry for daring bloggers and junkies.
The move is in keeping with the “demolish or repair” notice the city slapped on the DL nearly a month ago after a fire, presumably set by vandals, threatened to destroy the beloved North Broad building. Soon after, Deputy Mayor Alan Greenberger told reporters ”We’re going to get this button-downed better so we don’t have crazy people breaking in and starting fires.”
Last we heard, a local developer had introduced the bold idea to transform the relic into a new hybrid school with a fancy computer lab, art gallery and food from Marc Vetri, though, there’s no official word yet on if that project has moved forward.
