Google’s logo changes about as often as your average, first-world citizen changes socks, so we’re guessing you probably neglected to look into the meaning behind this recent animated Googly-doodly. Fear not, though, philistine; we’re here to inform.
79 years ago today, in 1933, the first drive-in movie theater opened in Pennsauken, New Jersey. The debut film was titled Wives Beware, and, although we can’t really find any information on it, we assume it’s a light-hearted romp into the days when men were men and women were mentally tormented by said men-men.
But here’s what you didn’t know about all of this: The drive-in’s inventor, Richard Hollingshead Jr., got this idea after deciding that people shouldn’t have to leave their horseless carriages just to see a flick, especially rotund people, like his own mother.
Yes, the drive-in was invented because a fat lady from Camden didn’t want to get out of her car.
