Haniyyah Barnes, a 25-year old Newark woman, has been indicted on charges of third-degree animal cruelty, theft and criminal mischief and second-degree burglary after she allegedly threw a wide-eyed, adorable Shih Tzu in front of a car last August.
In what is the ultimate testament to just how frustrating parking can be, Barnes allegedly killed Honey Bey, the 2-year-old dog, in a rage resulting from a dispute with Honey’s owner over nothing more than a parking space.
According to authorities, Barnes barged into her neighbor’s home on August 27, 2011 to confront the owner about the parking space. That’s when Honey Bey scurried into the room and began barking. Barnes then apparently grabbed the dog by the neck, rushed outside and threw the animal in front of oncoming traffic.
The violent assault shocked Barnes’ neighbors, one of whom called Barnes a “mad woman” and stated that, “its psychological, to do something like that—it sounds crazy.” As for Honey Bey, we can only hope that her memory serves as a constant reminder to the good citizens of Newark that, while parking sucks, this is clearly not how one should roll.
