The PPD is in for a grueling week of public relations after a damning video depicting an unprovoked PPD officer sucker-punching a woman at this weekend’s Puerto Rican Day Parade was posted to YouTube.
The video made the front page of Reddit and then quickly spread from there. Raw Story and Gothamist have since covered the story, and we’re guessing it will reach even further through cyberspace as the day goes on.
The video clearly shows an officer in a white uniform punching the unarmed woman. Just before the altercation, an unidentitified person threw water at the cops, and it appears as though the officer mistook the woman to be to culprit, since she was holding a bottle of water.
Police tell NBC 10 that the woman has since been ”cited for spraying silly string” and Internal Affairs is now investigating the officer’s conduct. We’ll keep you posted once more information is released.
