We’re going to openly plead ignorance on this one: We did not know that Edmund Bacon, father to Michael and Kevin of the incomparable Bacon Brothers Band, was a crucial figure in the development of our city, serving as the Executive Director of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission from 1949 to 1970.
Edmund and his staff played an instrumental role in shaping Philadelphia, and his savvy city planning, according to the Elder Wikipedia, eventually shaped “Penn Center, Market East, Penn’s Landing, Society Hill, Independence Mall, and the Far Northeast“ as we know it.
Fortunately, street artist Gaia is well aware of our naiveté, so he decided throw up this pretty massive mural at 13th and Drury to commemorate Father Edmund Bacon. Please send this around to your friends who may or may not think it’s a giant, depressed Bill O’Reilly.
