Amish Experts Not Buying “Amish Mafia”

According to local Amish experts, this so-called Amish Mafia depicted on the Discovery Channel’s ”Amish Mafia” is “about as real as the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in ‘The Office.’”

The reality show, which debuted on December 12th, depicts a roving gang of Amish enforcers who “protect” their fellow kind by way of cash handouts drawn from something called The Amish Fund. It turns out The Amish Fund actually exists and is meant to assist financially struggling Amish folk, but scenes in which John and Alvin intimidate an Amish man who sexually threatened a poor Amish widow…well, they’re likely fabricated.

Donald Kraybill, a professor at Elizabethtown College, has been studying the Amish for over 20 years, and his contention that the show is utter fiction was echoed by his presumably trustworthy contacts in the Amish community, “When I’ve spoken about this program with Amish friends they’ve just kind of laughed and said they never heard of this kind of thing”.

To be fair, that’s exactly what the Amish Mafia would want us to think…

Of course, there is also a small line in the shows’ credits, which reads, “Recreations are based on eye witness accounts, testimonials and the legend of the Amish mafia.”

So there you have it, “Amish Mafia” is based on the well-documented findings of “legends” and, therefore, completely fake. Did we really even have to post this, guys?

Thank you for writing this so I can finally have something to show everyone I know who is convinced that this series is completely true! I saw through this sham almost immediately, but a lot of my
friends, DISH coworkers, and roommates all think this is nothing but factual! Worst of all, they are all completely addicted to the show! I would’ve gone crazy ages ago, but I finally decided to take the plunge and upgrade my DVR to DISH’s Hopper; it has three independent tuners, so I can watch something that doesn’t turn my brain to mush while they get their Amish fix. I hope this article changes their minds though!

I have been a bit confused on whether this show is true or a recreation based on facts So, I went and took a piece of information from the show on one Alan Beiler, the black kid adopted by White Mennonites, who was accused of leading the Police on a chase. I went to the Pennsylvania Unified Judicial search and did a search by participant name. All the information in the show on Mr Beiler is true as I was able to see the criminal charges and docket sheets. It bodes the question are we suppose to believe the rest of the show is true?

We were confused about the veracity of this show as well, but it does prove to be fairly entertaining as far as t.v. shows go, and funny at times, too! I had a hard time imagining the Amish condoning the use of guns, violence, or threats of violence as a way to enforce some kind of morality in their community–this was the part that just didn’t make sense to me. I told my husband I didn’t think it was real based on that alone.

If its fake I think it’s a shame to use the Amish in that manner, but its not fake, their some Amish who are bullies and thinking they are above the law. Of course they would denie knowing, what they are doing have upset a lot of Amish people, the start of a covet up of harm done by Religion

White trash TV. Ficticious entertainment for the gullible and easily entertained mind.
Further proof Hollywood has truly run out of ideas stooping this low for material to slop the hogs with.
Just when you think TV programming couldn’t get any worse and people couldn’t get any more gullible – along comes this fake trash.

Shame on The Discovery Channel for promoting stupidity.
