No, You Can’t Park Under The Ben Franklin Bridge Yet

Finding a spot along Delaware Avenue is a daunting task, but some of those parking woes could be alleviated–if the parking lot under the Ben Franklin Bridge were open.

Not too long ago The Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) met to talk about opening the parking lot again but that glorious sea of open parking will remain a dream, at least for now.  ”We never say never,” said DRPA spokesman Timothy Ireland, adding, “… if anyone’s waiting with bated breath to park under that bridge, I would urge them to inhale.”

An influx of undesirable nightclub visitors concerns many residents who live in the area, especially Richard Thom, chairman of the Old City Civic Association’s developments committee. ”Try sleeping on a Thursday night, when the patrons leave the bars at 2:30 a.m., and then the nightclub employees leave an hour later,” said Thom. Ok, we get it: No one likes BROS.

Parking may be even more of a nightmare once the construction of a $600 million development begins near North Delaware Avenue. The development project will bring everything from a bowling alley to a sports theater to the already congested area.
