Terror Behind the Walls
Although there’s nothing big to report about this year’s Terror Behind the Walls aside from the chance to see props from Transformers 2 (the sequel was recently filmed at ESP) and a new surprise ending to the 3-D show, that’s no reason to skip out on the one thing that truly makes it feel like Halloween in this costume-loathing city. Some suggestions: go with a different group than last year, like co-workers who might react embarrassingly to the scares, or map out a Fairmount bar crawl beforehand and see how you hold up during the flashlights-only part of the tour. Better still, do both for a like-new experience. Fri., Sept. 19 – Sun., Nov. 1, 7pm – midnight, $20 - $30, Eastern State Penitentiary, 22nd Street and Fairmount Ave., 888.763.NITE, www.easternstate.org/halloween

Center City District Restaurant Week
Get ready to cross another one off of your “Restaurants to Try” list. More than 113 eateries are offering three-course menus for $35 (you know the drill—tax, tip and alcohol aren’t included) during this eleventh installment of Restaurant Week. Dining heavy hitters like Lacroix and Amada were “fully committed” when this story posted so we suggest trying lesser-known gems like Zinc, Il Portico or Bistro 7, which were still accepting reservations. But if you’re willing to hold out for one restaurant, ask the host if they’ll put your name on a waiting list.
Sun., Sept. 14 – Fri., Sept. 19; for a complete list of participating restaurants visit www.centercityphila.org
