Steven Lopez
Former Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Steven Lopez didn’t think much about his unlikely relationship with Nathaniel Ayers when he first began penning a column for a Los Angeles newspaper that centered on the talented yet mentally ill homeless man. His new book, The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music, chronicles their shared journey of highs and lows as Lopez makes it his mission to help the once promising classical bassist at Juillard to reclaim his life and his talent. Larry Platt, editor-in-chief of Philadelphia magazine, will interview Lopez. Sat., April 26, 2pm, free, Free Library of Philadelphia, 1901 Vine St., 215.686.5322, www.library.phila.gov
