Philadelphia Film Festival
Let’s be honest: mainstream movies have been sort of lacking luster lately. (How many more
Rambo sequels can Sylvester Stallone make before he needs a walker?) Catch some fresh flicks at the Philadelphia Film Festival running April 3 - 15. Six venues around the city will be airing 260 films from 49 countries, so you’ll be sure to find something new and exciting. And if you’re still wondering how many
Rambo movies there actually are (four), add another to your list. The festival’s own gem,
Son of Rambow, is the story of two young boys inspired by the one and only, who set forth to make their own action movie. See, you can have the best of both worlds.

Smak Parlour’s Birthday Bash
Our favorite part about birthday parties is when the guest of honor gives back with cool little parting gifts like candy or cocktail shakers. Smak Parlour girls Abby and Katie are celebrating their in-house designed clothing boutique's third birthday with oodles of goodies for company. The store’s PINK party will feature pink champagne, pink cupcakes and complimentary birthday gifts with every purchase. We’re sure you’ll be able to find something pink to add to your collection. Apr. 4, 5 – 9pm, 219 Market St., 215.625.4551, www.smakparlour.com
Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival
If you’ve always wanted to travel Japan but never had the yen, don’t worry. You can still take in the spring sights at the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival. Picnic under the beautiful blossoms in Fairmount Park and take in the cultural activities celebrating Japanese culture. Venture out later in the evening (without the kids) and experience the cuisine and drink of Japan with a sushi-making workshop and the Fourth Annual Sake Fest, April 9. And thankfully, it won’t take a 14-hour plane ride. Apr. 5 – 19, various events, locations and prices, 215.790.3810, www.jasgp.org/cherryblossomfestival
